Diamonds in the Rough by jluv426

2010 still has the new car smell to it so I figure there is not better time to urge you to change your thinking. Before Kid Cudi became Cudi and before Skyzoo was Skyzoo they were unknown grinders in Hip Hop’s version of Dante’s Inferno. Its easy to forget their earlier lesser known work but these are just two example of why its important to look for the diamonds in the rough.

Its easy to use the old excuse that there is no real Hip Hop out there but that is simply not true. There is more music out there than ever but a vast majority is lackluster or just plain not worth mentioning. But in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t take that much time to check out a new song from an unknown artist. After all, you can usually form your pump it or dump it opinion in the first :45 seconds. Sure you could have just spent :40 seconds of your life listening to yet another Lil’ Wayne wannabe and you’ll never get that back. But you could be unearthing a new Hip Hop gym like Eternia. There is something excited about being on the cutting edge of tomorrows overnight sensation.

There was a time when I would actively seek out new artists and over time I became cynical like a lot of you. One day I listened to a handful of mp3s and must have had a bad batch because for years I avoided those possible diamond in the roughs. But I am here to tell you that I have seen the light and hope that you will too. If I was still so close minded I would have missed out on what I consider to be a classic in Brother Ali’s Us. Instead I popped the disc into the player and scanned the  tracklisting and was pleasantly surprised with the music that I heard.

At the risk of sounding corny, the search for the next worthwhile authentic Hip Hop artist is like Forest Gump and his box of chocolates. You may never know what your going to get but it sure is great to press play on that mp3 and hope for an audible treat that satisfies your musical sweet tooth.
